Spending Spree

Yesterday afternoon lent itself to a nice little (big) spending spree. Let me say that there has been a lot of research and pain go into all this shopping, especially the cot. To cut a long story short - we are much happier we got everything from the Pram Warehouse. We price matched everything except the pram to their website, which was much cheaper than anywhere else we had looked.

The only thing I bought home yesterday was the Baby Bjorn. All the rest is on order (paid for of course), and they will call us when it's arrived instore.

As I'm sure all parents know it's a little scary buying things that you need but aren't too sure about how it will suit you. We wanted to get a Baby Bjorn and were planning on getting the "original". We ended up going with the "Synergy" because of the airy material - a must in Queensland weather, and the better back support will be very welcome as my back is fairly weak. I'm already falling apart at the age of 27!

Kevin surprised me with the pram. At first I had to convince him we needed one. Then he thought maybe the $30 cheap as chips pram from Target would be fine. Then we went into a baby store and he was all set on a three wheeler. Kevin had made his decision on the pram while I was still considering 4 wheel VS 3 wheel. It threw me for a loop. With our budget and other requirements I think this pram will work best. The only thing it doesn't do is allow you to have the baby facing you.

The car seat was kind of easy once the salesperson explained the differences. Do you know they even make car seats with speakers in the side!!! I think that's totally ridiculous. My Dad wants one though = )

Last but not least was the cot. We started out with high hopes wanting a Boori cot and change table with drawers. If we wanted to buy anything else for the baby, that had to change. So we went with Boori's cheaper version, King Parrot. It's not cheap and nasty though. It's made from the same wood and looks pretty nice. We did check out the bargain basement stuff at Target and Toys R Us and they were a real option for a while. Then we changed our minds again and went back to King Parrot, mainly after we realised we want this cot to last for two children. The Heritage Teak colour isn't done much justice by the web, but it's nice. It's funny lately how all of our furniture purchases have shied away from dark wood, which is really our favourite.

So the big stuff is done. We plan on going with a no frills baby bath, thanks to Mum's advice. Also we may not get a change table. We may just use a mat on the dresser or kitchen table. Still not too sure on that one, time will tell. In no rush for the high chair, as I recently learned you don't need one until the baby can sit up...duh!
