Halloween Recap

We don't do Halloween so much around here but I do want to record what this year meant for us.  The 5th Halloween in this house, and had I decorated it would have been the 4th year of decorations.  Having just come back from Melbourne, at home by myself with two kids and feeling the sickest I had in many years the only "Halloween" thing I did was empty a couple of fun size chocolates into a plastic container and sit them by the door, should anyone knock.  I wasn't hopeful as to date no one had ever knocked on the door.

As we were away we missed the little Halloween quest at the local shopping centre, so Brian's only introduction to Halloween came thanks to Jimmy Giggle and Hoot the owl on ABC 4 Kids and the associated Halloween episodes of all his favourite shows they played.  Clearly I should not have been in charge of two kids because I was on the couch with him while he was watching the programs and I can't recall any of them!!

In any case it gave him the basics.  I let him knock on the front door, made him say "trick or treat" and I gave him a chocolate.  Then I said "Happy Halloween".  We repeated with me knocking on the door and him giving me the chocolate.

Later in the night we did have a knock on the door - pizza delivery.  I know, I was REALLY sick!  So, super keen, eager little Brian sat eating his dinner waiting for someone to knock on the door.  Rat-a-tat-tat.  There it was.  He jumped down off his seat and ran to the door.  We opened it to 3 scary looking girls.  I was more concentrating on helping Brian, so I don't even know what they were dressed as.  He held out the container of chocolates and they each took one.  I made him say "Happy Halloween" and we were done.  As we closed the door the discussion began.  "They had pumpkins to put their treats in."

awwww it's always fun when the little ones learn about trick/treating. I use to practice with my kids at home too, they loved it. Thanks for reminding me about this with my own little ones. Will have to ask if they remember doing that. I'm glad he enjoyed it and who knows next year you might get more kids at the door.
