Observations

The little guy's teeth.
  • When you don't blog for a while it's hard to know where to start.
  • I've been doing a whole lot of "how I want to live my life" thinking.  My secret One Little Word for the year is "me".  It came from the fact that I put others (mostly my kids) before myself.  It's amazing how much more my word has become in terms of self development and soul searching.  I feel I need to record my thoughts and this process.
  • Today I found out that a friend has been presented with a wonderful opportunity.  It's a risk, it's a change, but it's super exciting.  I feel that if presented with that same opportunity Kevin and I would likely turn it down.  We are planners, thinkers and budgeters (not sure that's a word).  I like who we are and that has us in a good place.  But sometimes I wonder if we are holding ourselves back.
  • The kids are going great.  We are doing the overnight underwear thing with Brian again.  Lots of conversations with Kevin and one night he woke up completely dry.  He told me the next night he would wear underwear, so I made him stick to it.  No backing out.  He did and he woke up dry.  Tonight is night five and so far we have had only one accident somewhere between 3:30am and 6:25am.  Pretty proud of that.  He gets high fives every morning.
  • Simon is still loving being on his tummy.  Rolling around and moving about.  He has mastered dragging his mat towards him to get toys.  Lately I've been putting him on the floor in his room where he can't do that.  He's getting his legs and bum up so I have hope he will crawl!  Ali wrote the other week about the comparison game - it's so true and I'm trying not to compare.  We all get there in our own time and once you are there the worry of getting there is all forgotten.  I'm pretty sure it's a girl thing.  Men don't play that game.
  • Trying to decide whether to go the store bought or handmade route for Easter gifts for my family.  I like the idea of a basket of handmade biscuits and other bits.  I can't bring myself to buy much of the store made Easter products - so ridiculously expensive.
  • Heading to the shops again this weekend.  On the list - a new rubber bathmat and clothes for Brian.  I struggle to find nice ones for him.  I find that boys always seem to be forgotten when it comes to clothes.  They sell out fast.  Graphic tees for boys often have horrible designs.  I'm working on a if I like it buy it philosophy now.  I already have 2 pairs of pjs for him for next summer (December, size 5s).  We have missed the boat seasonally for him for the last little while so this winter I wanted to be ahead.  When the winter clothes hit the stores, so did I.  Brian is thin, so he needs the length in pants but a smaller waist.  I find that stretchy bands are the way to go, but have only found one size 3 that will actually fit him.  Everything ends up falling down to his ankles!  Obviously due to kindy and being relatively new to using the toilet by himself he needs pants that pull up and down easily.  It's a tough balance.  Crossing my fingers we find something else this weekend.

  2. aawww what a cutie he is. That's great if he will start crawling and can get to his toys.

hooray for dry nights, that's awesome!!

Good for you enjoying your OLW and giving it the focus it needs.

I'm a planner also, no big risks for us!!

Clothes are hard to find for my boy also, he's very skinny also but needs the lenght. I do try to buy things after season and save till the next year.

I'm glad you did this post, I like these reading little bits of what's going on with you.

Take care and enjoy your "ME" time!!

  3. I'm sorry I missed this post. What a sweet little photo of your boy and a happy little one he is:) It's hard not to compare I try not to do that either and just remember to celebrate their differences but I agree it is a girl thing. And my hubby and are sound a lot like you and your hubby, we just aren't risk takers and although I'd like to be sometimes I'm happy not to be too. :)
