Myer's Christmas Windows

Source: www.youtube.com Posted by: John from Stage One

While the list of Christmas traditions we celebrate each year is long and ever changing, this is my final post in my "Tradition Series" this year. Before you read on if you aren't from Australia you need to know that Myer is one of Australia's major department stores.

Myer's Christmas Windows was created to coincide with the Olympic Games held in Melbourne in 1956, making this their 54th year. Melbourne's city store in Bourke Street is the major nationwide attraction, with smaller displays at other capital city stores. I'm a little bummed that my research revealed this fact as I thought the displays were of equal magnificence.

Each year the theme is different and is based on a classic or popular book and/or movie. The 2009 theme is Olivia, the pig, not Olivia Newton-John the singer/actor.

We are yet to adventure into the city to see the display. But you can bet that I will be doing so with a certain red cup (or clear in the case of a cold version) in my hand.
