Brisbane's Classic Hits 4KQ Christmas Lights competition is the way to go around here. According to their website it's in it's 23rd year and around 500 homes participate.
Quite a few years back my family and I ventured out to the above home in Kenmore. Owners Walter and Beverley Wood have been decorating their home in lights for over 30 years. You can read more about them here.
Our experience of their display was amazing and very festive. We had to park several streets away as this is a multi-year winning display. It was great to see that others in the street were also participating, it was a real winter summer wonderland.
The hours of work and dedication that goes into a display like this is phenomenal. One of my Mum's friend's used to have quite a light display and I can recall Mum telling us about all the little tips and tricks her friend has. Like keeping the lights tangle free by wrapping them around plumbing pipe and buying tonnes of extra light bulbs, as you can never get replacements when you need them. Also the dangerous task of climbing the ladder just to change a light that has gone out.
If you are in Brisbane, address details of this year's entrants will be published in The Courier-Mail and on the 4KQ Christmas lights website on December 9.
